Saltair Renovation
CHEMAINUS

This renovation of an old miner shack was indeed a unique project. The original shack had no foundation and was built over a stump, but it was framed well, and the clients wanted to keep the original charm of the home and improve upon it.
We needed to raise the home in order first to dig out the stumps and then pour a foundation. We then placed the home onto the new foundation. This also allowed us to add a master and ensuite and a small porch on the front. We also improved the insulation and reinforced the framing. The new layout also required adding a new window, and the decision was made to upgrade all the windows to improve insulation and function. However, we wanted to retain the same design as the original windows for a seamless look. It was challenging to find a supplier that still offered the older style of window, but we were able to work with a local supplier to recreate the old windows. Despite the complexity, upgrading the existing structure was still more cost-effective than a new build, and it was well worth the effort.
